MacGregor - Weem, Perthshire, Tayside
My earliest MacGregor ancestor that I can verify with any accuracy is Alexander MacGregor who married Jean Dewar in 1806. She was the daughter of Thomas Dewar, Carrier in Perth. He was a Corporal in the 74th Regiment of Foot, according to their marriage entry in Perth in 1806. Their marriage is also recorded in his home parish of Weem's register. Their children were Amelia ( Emilia, AEmilia, Emily )born in 1817 ( my gggg grandmother ), Vere ( born 1815 died 1849 ), Isobel born 1820, Archibald (born 1807 ), Catharine ( born 1809) Niel (born 1811 in Aberfeldy ) and Jean (born 1813, also Aberfeldy ). Amelia went on to marry Hugh Cameron at Moulin in Perthshire in 1848. Their children were Jean Elizabeth ( my ggg-granny ), Isabella ( b 1858 ), Donald (b 1849 ), Alexander (b 1853 ), Mary( born 1854 ) and John ( b 1856 ). This generation was all born at Little Dunkeld.
I would be delighted to hear from anybody who can help me place my family into the correct MacGregor line or taht has information on any of the above people. The names Niel and Archibald are not particularly common within the family ( as far as I can make out ) but that does not seem to help me place them at all!
