Re: Dr. Alexander MacGregor of Stranraer Academy Scotland 1845
Although my family tree is littered with Alexander McGregors, none of them had university degrees like yours! However, there are family branches of the Mcgregors from Perthshire that are worth looking at to discover your Alexanders relatives. My great grandfather John McGregor from Easter Shian, Glenquaich, Perthshire had a cousin William who worked as Parish Schoolmaster at Contin, Ross & Cromarty for a while (1840s, 50s) & may be a clue to part of the family who were more intellectually inclined, since he named one of his sons Horatio. William was born to John McGregor & Elizabeth Anderson, Parish of Kenmore in 1821. There were several McGregor male cousins and brothers in the area in the 1800s who married McFarlanes, Andersons and Dows. One of these may have fathered your Alexander. Have a look in my tree and see if you can find any clues: http://www.red1st.com/axholme/pedigree.php?personID=I77402664110927&tree=Axholmehttp://www.red1st.com/axholme/pedigree.php?personID=I77402664110927&tree=Axholme It is free to look at trees in Red1st.
