richard mackinder, thief and scoundrel
From the Shawneetown, Illinois Gazette: April 14, 1821. page 4, column 1
Stop the Thief!
Richard Mackinder, a man between 48 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, a yellow spot over one of his eyes, stout made, from Lincolnshire in England, after stealing a yellow bay mare from Mr. Thomas Story, near Rock in Cave, in Gallatin County, and divers other things, ran away two or three weeks ago. A more consummate villain does not exist in this country, and it is with a view of cautioning all persons against him, that this notice is given. He has been in this country about two years during which time he has been amply proved to be a thief and scoundrel. To bring him to justice should be the object of all who may see this advertisement.
