John MacKinnon, settling at Boularderie, NS

Looking for any info going back for the above name. He was born around 1834/35 in Scotland, arriving to settle in Nova Scotia in the Sydney Mines/Island Point, Boularderie area.He married 1: Margaret/Marcella/Marta MacDonald (I believe this was her maiden name) and 2: Annie MacNeill (her 1st husband was John Elliott). His second marriage should be after 1891 as that's what I have for John Elliott's death date.
I have nine children total for John & Margaret: 1: Ann (b. ca. 1865, 1881 Canadian census for Boularderie does not list her); 2: Donald (b. ca. 1867; m. Sarah MacNeil (dau. of James/Anastasia) 2/28/1892; 3: Mary Ann (b. ca. 1869, m. ?? Spring); 4: Michael (6/22/1870 Island Pt. - 11/4/1960 Sydney Mines, m. Mary Elliott (dau. of John/Annie (MacNeill)) and yes, that is the same Annie as in previous paragraph; 5: John (1872ish - 3/1947, m. Flora MacMullin abt. 1900); 6: Veronica/Verona (b. ca. 1875); 7: Roderick "Rory" (b. ca. 1878, d. 1/17/1945, m. twice, 2nd wife Anna May (Lawrence); 8: Christie/Christena J (b. ca. 1880); and 9: Catherine (b. ca. 1884, m. Morton Whitmore).
Any information on John's lineage going back would be greatly appreciated, since I am dead-ending here.Should any of the other names mentioned connect, I have a fair amount of information up to the present that I would be more than happy to share.
