I'm looking for a Finlay Maclennan who was born in Lochcarron Parish in about 1840. In the 1861 census he was counted with my GGG grandparents, Hugh Cameron and and Anne Mackenzie and their family at "Craig, Lochcarron". He was apparently 22 and a farmer's son born Lochcarron and is said to be Hugh's nephew.

Hugh Cameron's parents were John Cameron and Bess or Betsy Maclennan and I think therefore that Finlay would most probably be either Bess's nephew (and Hugh's cousin, or Bess' great nephew.

I'm trying to identify Finlay because there are no records that I can find of Bess's birth, marriage or death and I only know she was Hugh's mother from HIS death certificate. So I was hoping to get there by a round-about way through Finlay.

The most likely identity I can find for this Finaly is that he was probably the son of Donald Maclennan and Christina or Christy MacDonald who was previously married to Malcolm Mackenzie, and born (or christened) 19/5/1844. This makes his age in the 1861 census a bit out though. He married Annie Mackintosh and died at Camusglass, Inveralligan, Sheildaig on 3/6/1914.

Donald and Christy also had 6 other children, Kate 9/12/1821, Mary 1/3/1826, Flora 10/2/1833, Janet 11/10/1835, a second Janet 14/5/1837 and Anne 29/9/1825.

Christy died at Inveralligin, Sheildaig 22/4/1908 at the age of 99. Donald died on 15/8/1859 at Corrie, Sheildaig, age 63. His father was Finlay Maclennan and his mother was Kate MacDonald.

So - my thoughts are, IF I have found the right Finlay, my Bess who married John Cameron was either the sister or the aunt of Finaly's father Duncan. This would mean that the Finlay who married Kate Macdonald would be either her father or her brother.

If anyone has any info on any of the above people I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
