Re: Underground RR Operators in Indiana
I did some research on the family of Solomon Macy, a Quaker, who left North Carolina and moved to Indiana--because of the slavery issue. His son Samuel, widowed with 2 children, married (2nd) my ggm Martha T. Kirk Briggs who was also widowed with two children; this, in Mahaska Cty, Iowa. I have more information somewhere and will dig it up if it might be helpful. One interesting note about Samuel is that he served on a committee of the Monthly Meeting to investigate the involvement of two boys from the Meeting who were with John Brown at Harper's Ferry. There's plenty of anti-slavery sentiment, in other words, although I don't have any information about the Underground Railroad.
