More Somerset MAGGS
I have looked through the various postings re MAGGS from Somerset and I think I may have a different lot, as none of them seem to fit with mine.
My wife's 2xgreat grandmother was Constancia/Contance/Contant MAGGS she was christened in High Littleton, Somerset on 28 Dec 1828. She married Aaron YOUNG in Abt March 1850 in Farmborough, Somerset. Her parents were Thomas MAGGS (Dob Abt 1782 from Midsomer Norton)and Susannah (possibly PEWTERS) dob abt 1785.
They had at least two other children Mercy MAGGS (dob abt 1821) and John MAGGS (dob abt 1823).
Mercy married a Robert PERRY in Farmborough in 1846 and John married Rosanna STRICKLAND also in Farmborough in 1846 (a double wedding perhaps???).
I wonder whether any of you has information regarding the parentage of Thomas - he lived all his married life in Farmborough as far as I can tell and died in 1863 I believe. Susannah outlived him and is listed in the 1871 census as a pauper. She was buried in High Littleton in 1873. I have been unable so far to get further back than Thomas and Susannah and it would be great to take them one stage further. He was a labourer and coal dealer although in the 1861 census he is listed as being an Almsman (I assume living on Alms from charity/the church).
With unusual name like Constancia and Mercy perhaps this lot will ring some bells somewhere,
