Slovaks and the Magyar name

Does anyone know if the surname Magyar is a common surname in Slovakia? My Grandfather Madiar (Americanized surname) came over from Teplicka Nova Vess, Slovakia in 1902 with his father and both were listed with the surname of Magyar. Any clues would be appreciated. Sincerely, Dan Dixon
