Jon Martennson Malmgren - Sweden 1810-1877
The first peson in our family line to use the surname "Malmgren" appears to have been Jon Martennson Malmgren, son of Martin Jonsson & Bengta Yarsdotter. I have conflicting evidence that list his place of birth, April 1810, as either Balkåkra Parish, Sweden, or Malmo, Malmöhus, Sweden. His adpotion of the Malmgren surname appears to have been a geographic choice, due to his residence in Malmo.
Before Jon, his ancestors appear to have followed the Scandiavian custom of using their father's first name and adding the suffix.. .son or . . . dotter.
In any case, information shared by other family researchers is that Jon married Bengta Trulsdotter Nilsson. Together Jon & Bengta had at lease 11 children: Anna, Magnus Julius, Gustav Wilhelm, Johan, Carl Peter, Lars August, Franz Otto I, Franz Otto II, Oscar Fredrik, Olaf Fredrik & Henrik [Henry]. Several of the brothers, including O. Fred, Franz Otto II & Henry came to the US in about 1877. We know of the descendent of O. Fred & Henry. We would love to know more about the descendents of Franz Otto in the US.
Carl Peter appears to have stayed behind in Caroli, Malmöhus, Sweden. He had at least two sons: Carl Johan Fredrik & George Axel. We would be very happy to discover any of their descendents.
