Re: Jon Martennson Malmgren - Sweden 1810-1877
The first person in our family to use the surname of Malmgren was Jon Mårtensson Malmgren, born in 1810 in Balkåkra Parish, Sweden. Before this time all were using surnames that reflected their father's first name. i.e. Mårtensson, Nillsson, Andersson, Jonsson, Yarsdotter, Trulsdotter, Olofsdotter.
Jon Mårtensson was married to Bengta Trulsdotter Nilsson in 1841 in Kerrstorp Parish, Malmöhus, Sweden. The family also lived in Holmby, Malmöhus, Sweden in 1858& Caroli, Malmöhus, Sweden in 1875. He died in Lund in 1877.
His daughter Anna was born about 1840. she appears to have been the only daughter in her generation of this Malmgren family. She never emigrated to the US. She had 9 brothers that we know of, born between 1842-1858. The younger ones were born in Malmö, Malmöhus, Sweden & Revinge, Malmöhus, Sweden. Four of the brothers emigrated to Nebraska in 1878 & their mother, Bengta Trulsdotter Nilsson, came to live with them in St. Paul, Howard, NE in the 1880s. she died there in 1888.
Several of the brothers had daughters with the name of Anna. O. Fred's daughter Anna was born in St. Paul, Howard, NE in 1883. Henry's daughter Anna was born there in 1884. The only child that I know of that Johan had was, Murin in 1880 & Franz Otto's son was named Wolph, also born in 1880.
Some of the descendents of these brothers were in MN in the 1900 but so far I can't find any connection with your Malmgren family. If you can find one, I'd love to know about it.
