In the 1850 census for Greene Co., IL, William H. MANLY (age 34, b. KY) and his wife Martha A. (age 36, b. TN) were living next door to Thomas MANLEY (age 64, b. VA) and his wife, Lydia (age 60, b. VA).Also in the HH of Thomas and Lydia was their son(?) Jacob (age 24, b. KY).Presumably Thomas and Lydia were the parents of William Henry MANLY, who married Martha Ann VINYARD on 7 MAY 1843 in Greene Co., IL.In 1855, William and Martha had a daughter named Lydia, presumably named after her grandmother.
In the 1840 census for Greene Co., IL, Thomas MANLEY (age 50-60) and his family lived near the family of John MANLEY (age 50-60).This John MANLEY was presumably the Jonathan MANLEY who married Polly PITTMAN in Warren Co., KY on 1 APR 1815.It is quite possible that Thomas and this John MANLEY were brothers.
My interest in these Manly/Manley families of Greene Co., IL is that my gg grandfather, Martin V. MANLY, was living in Greene Co., IL in 1850 (age 16).I am trying to determine if he was related to these families. Can anyone help me establish a connection?
