Hi There
I am trying to trace my German roots, which I find quite difficult since most internet sites seem to be concerned with American Genealogy. I was born (1957) in Luderitz, Namibia (Deutsch Suedwest Afrika) and so was my father, Erich Manns (29/11/1929-09/10/1975).
His parents came from Germany (1914). His dad was Edmund Manns(1885-1957), who had 2 brothers, Heinrich(1887) and Friedrich(1888). Their father was Heinrich Manns (1858) and his father was Wilhelm Manns (1828-1914). I have found the following names of places in old letters: Dortmund and Landau an der Isar. A lot of the old letters and documents that I have, are written in Alte Deutsche Schrift and I find it difficult to read some of it. If you recognise any of the above names or if you could give me advise...it would be appreciated. I live in New Zealand and would love to create a comprehensive family tree for my children.
(PS I speak, read and write German)
