I gave up on tracing my father's family tree until the past week as it was hard to do.One dead end after another came up.
Several days ago I tried again and managed to get past Samuel Mainwaring/Manwaring/Manwarren, who was born in New York State in 1758.He is buried at Primitive Cemetery in Mexico, NY.
I understand that his parents were Charles and Mary Mainwaring/Manwaring/Manwarren (her maiden name was Dykes).Charles was born in England in 1741.I have no idea when or where Mary was born.
I am guessing that Charles and Mary moved to the United States shortly after they got married. They were quite young at the time.Charles was only 17 when Samuel was born.
An online resource said that Charles and Mary were married in the Wiltshire Parish on March 4, but no year was listed. The only year listed was at the top of the heading - 1760, which can't be right as Samuel was born in the U.S. two years prior to that date.
Perhaps these records were compiled several years after the fact?I can't come up with any other explanation for this discrepancy. Here is the link for that resource:
Here's what really drives me crazy about the research. For starters, there are many variations in the Manwaring name.Mainwaring, Manwarren, Maynwaring, etc, etc.Another is there seems to be a repetition of names. There are several Samuel Manwarings I know of who are buried in Oswego County NY."Ephraim" came up several times, etc, etc.
Another issue is why can't I get past Charles?I have no idea who his parents were.I have no idea who Mary's parents were.No names, dates, where they were born, married, died, buried, etc.
I tried Familysearch.org.Nothing there.
For a long time I assumed that my father's family was descended from Oliver Mainwaring who was from England and moved to Connecticut.I still think, even though I found that we are apparently not descended from Oliver, that we are still related to him.Figuring out how is the hard part.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how I should proceed, please let me know. Thanks!
