Vivian, please excuse the delay in responding. One of those things. Otherwise, I have been aware of this court proceeding with the child for some time. However, I cannot make the connection work. S.W. & Sara Williams Maples had two sons, one of whom was William Stephen Maples (b1833,d1861)who died at Yorktown in the Civil War and is buried in Selma. I can find no record of him being married. That does not mean that he wasn't, of course. The other son was James Stephen Maples who, as you know, went to East Baton Rouge. He had male children but the time frame would not have allowed them to be married with children at the time this Mary Jane Garrett? Maples came along - - I don't think. That whole line has me flustered as well. Seems as though they disappeared after 1890.
