All indications are that Richard Marquis was the father of William Marquiss but I have been unable to find definite proof.

Notes for RICHARD MARQUIS:
Richard and Anne owned over 1400 acres of land in Hampshire County, VA (WVA) and they also bought and sold several other pieces of real estate in that county, Anne signing all of the deeds.He sold his grants in 1792 and Anne did not sign so she must have died by then.He was then living in Allegany County MD in 1793.

"In 1856, during the presidential campaign, Lincoln came to Monticello to make a speech.The speaking was to be in the courthouse, and when the time came to proceed to said place, only two persons could be found who were willing to walk with Abraham Lincoln through the streets and to the courthouse.These men were Ezra Marquiss, Sr., and Joseph Guy, who carried the flag.The speaking began, with these two men for audience, but gradually the number increased until the courtroom was nearly full."

Wm. Frank McMillen was a Second Lieutenant in the 107th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry in the Union forces of the Civil War.He was in battles at Huff's Ferry, Campbell's Ferry and at Knoxville TN.He resigned from the service because of illness contracted due to exposure and impure water.He was ill from July 5, 1863 until December 15, 1863.
