William Martin of Izard/Searcy County - Rhoda and Jesse Adams
I have been researching a William Martin SR in Izard County, AR.I am a bit puzzled over this Martin and the Jesse Adams family.
William Martin SR was probably in Arkansas by 1814.In 1819 William and wife Mary sell land on the White River and the deed states he has had possession since 1814.
In the 1830 Izard County census are William Martin SR, William Martin JR and Thomas Martin. There are other Martin's in Izard, but these three are listed in on the same page with only a Benjamin Davis in between them.Jesse Adams and Peter F Adams are on this same page.
A Jesse Adams SR and JR are on the Izard tax lists in until 1833.The three Martin men mentioned above are on these lists until 1833, except William SR drops off in 1833 and instead is listed Mary Martin.
In 1834 the land in this area was being surveyed. The survey notes for T15N R18W mention people who live here already.Among them are widow Martin, William Martin, Widow Davis and Alexander Hamilton and it says this is along Richland Creek.By 1839, now Searcy County,Mary Martin and Hiram Martin were on the tax lists, but no William Martin.Hiram was on the 1840 census, by Martha Davis (I think spelled or transcribed as Matha). In 1850 Hiram lives beside Rhoda and Spencer Adams.Hiram was born about 1818 in AR.I believe he was the son of William Martin SR, as William had males of this age in his household in 1830.Hiram Martin had a land grant in T15N R18N but also Hiram Martin, Spencer Adams and John W Adams all had land grants in Section 17 T16N R17W.The names around them in the Searcy County Census and on land grants around them, are names of men who were on the same census page as William Martin and Jesse Adams in 1830.
I know that a Jesse Adams married Rhoda Martin in Floyd County, KY but what I wonder is if there is proof that Rhoda was the daughter of William Martin who died in 1819 or the William Martin who died in 1832, as I see people who say there were two different William's who've been confused as one.
It is very confusing to sort out the various William Martin's and I'm just wondering if there is an actual record which shows who was the father of Rhoda Martin.
