Martinie - Louderback Marriage
I am trying to find proof of the marriage of Ernest Friederick Julius MARTINIE (MARTINI)(1753-1832) and Susannah LOUDERBACK (1750-1838).I have proof that Ernst Martini was born in Gandersheim (now called Bad Gandersheim), Germany, came to Canada with the Brunswick troops during the Revolutionary War, was captured at the Battle of Saratoga October 1777 and was a prisoner in the Convention Army until he deserted in Virginia on 26 January 1780.
Susannah Louderback was a daughter of Maria Elisabeth KLEIN and Johann David LOUDERBACK who had settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia many years previously.
I have found that several researchers list a marriage date prior to Ernest's desertion date; however, they have no proof of the marriage; unfortunately, they have just copied the material from other undocumented web pages.
The marriage I am seeking would probably have occurred in Virginia around 1780 or early 1781 as the first of their two children, Jonathan Martinie (my ancestor), was born 5 November 1781 in Virginia.(Their youngest son, David Martinie, was born 2 January 1783).
The name was spelled "Martini" in Germany but after Ernest lived in Virginia, the family changed it to "Martinie". They later moved to Henry Co Ky where Ernest and Susannah died. Descendants, with whom I would love to correspond with, have lived predominately in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, and Tennessee. The Martinie name has just about ended in Kentucky. The last ones in Kentucky lived in western Kentucky around Carlisle.I would appreciate hearing from any Martinie family. Thanks!
