Henri MARTINY from Marseilles to New Orleans
Henri MARTINY came to New Orleans, LA from Marseilles, France, sometime around 1870 to avoid compulsory military service. He married Anna LACOSTE of St. Martinville, LA and had a family in New Orleans.
His son Henri Martiny, Fils, married Anna JENNESS Cir. 1893, and they had five children in New Orleans: Henry Lewis, b. 9 Jan 1895 - d. Aug 1974 (unmarried?); Walter John, b. 4 Feb 1896 - d. 25 Dec 1995, married Martha STEWART; Albert William, b. 28 Jul 1898 - d. Oct 1972, married Antoinette Anna ABADIE, d/o Joseph ABADIE and Philippine LANASA (this is the line of my son-in-law Albert William MARTINY, III); Angelus Estelle, b. 16 Mar 1902 - d. 12 Nov 1993, married Herbert Joseph ABADIE (brother of Antoinette); Beatrice Gladys, b. 16 Jan 1909 - d. Nov 1984, married Urban ALLAN.
Henri, Sr. had other children as well; they were possibly F. A. MARTINY who had a feed store on Magazine St.in New Orleans, and Leon MARTINY, b. 6 Jan 1883 and married to "Nettie", and possibly othe children as well.
There are not many MARTINY families in the New Orleans area, and but a few MARTINI families as well. We believe the latter spelling was of the people who came from Italy. ANd MARTINEZ is another similarly named family, which had its roots in Spain.
Any and all information on this family and its descendents and forebears will be appreciated.
