Re: Maskew's of the U.S., Africa, Australia, & elsewhere
Small world!I'm a Maskew from Atlanta as well. I'd bet your from the John Tandy Maskew line...right? Has anyone gotten past your first John here in the US yet who settled in MS?
I'm from the John Shepherd Maskew line..down from his son, Gilbert born June 1850 Isle of Wight, England. He settled in Waco, McLennan Co., TX around 1878 as a sheep (wool) grower with his brother, Henry Christopher.
Seems there's three groups of Maskew's in the US that I'm currently aware of now.The last is from the PA area descended from Robert, I believe was his name, of Yorkshire.
I saw some Maskew's in TN and SC recently but not sure if they are from the MS or PA line.Pretty sure they aren't down from the TX group. The TX group is mainly still there with some in CO, CA, NM and WA and of course, me from GA and now in SC.Some of the family went on to Africa, Australia and NZ back before the turn of the century.
I'd almost bet somewhere back there, all three lines go back to the same Maskew in England.Would be great to someday connect the lot!
Will swap info if you're interested.
