Hello Sarah!
I have just started doing my husband's family tree.I was wondering if you had found out anything more about William Masters.Supposedly my husband is one of his descendants. Here is what I have.
Jason David Maxon (my husband) b. 8 Aug 1982 Marietta, Wash. Co., OH to Dean Earl Maxon (b. 15 Feb 1949 Wash. Co., OH s/o Thomas O'Dell Maxon & Ruth Faye Smith) & Linda Kathryn Adams (b. 29 Aug 1957 Marietta, Wash. Co., OH) d/o Harold Eugene Adams (b. 11 Apr 1933 Wash. Co., OH) & Ruth Marie Flowers (b. 20 Apr 1939 Wood Co., WV d/o Robert Leonard Flowers & Mary Rebecca Knisley).Harold s/o Archie Watson Adams (b. 8 Sep 1900 Winget Run, Wash. Co., OH) & Emma Caroline Reel (b. 17 Nov 1904 Woodford Co., IL d/o John Reel & Marie Rassbach).Archie s/o James M. Adams (b 13 Apr 1838 Ludlow Twp., Wash. Co., OH s/o unknown) & Cynthia Ellen Masters (b. 6 Jun 1857 Wash. Co., OH) d/o William Masters & Anna Jackson.

According to Cynthia's death certificate her father and Mother were both born in Wash. Co., OH.Her obituary states that she was born at Moss Run, Wash. Co., OH.Her name appears as Mrs. Cynthia Masters Adams.Cynthia & James were married 30 Nov 1880 Lawrence Twp., Wash. Co., OH.Her last name appears as Arnel/Arnold on the certificate. She was previously married to a William P. Arnel. That marriage took place 14 Oct 1871 in Wash. Co., OH.Her last name appears as Rhea on that certificate.I can't find a divorce record for William Arnel and Cynthia. He remarried 10 days before Cynthia did in 1880.The 1880 Lawrence Twp., Wash. Co., OH census shows a Cynthia Masters living with her mother Ann Masters & sister Melissa J. Masters & nephew Isaac E. McGee.Cynthia was 24 b OH.Father's birthplace not given.Ann was 53 b. OH.1870 Lawrence Twp., Wash. Co., OH census has Ann A. Masters (head) age 43 b OH with Cyntha E. Ray 14 OH, Catherine A. Mosey 11 OH, Melissa Adams 10 OH, Mary Vanwey 21 OH, William H. Vanwey 4 OH, & Isaac E. Vanwey 2 OH.I believe that Ann Jackson was William Masters 2nd wife.Mary married a Vanwey.I believe her to be from William's 1st marriage. As for the last names Adams, Mosey, & Ray, I have no clue.I thought that maybe William & Ann took these girls to raise. But Cynthia's death certificate has William Masters as her father.A couple of Cynthia's children's birth records has her maiden name as Masters and a couple as Rhea.I am not sure what to make of this.According to the 1850 Elk Twp., Monroe Co., OH census, William was in his 2nd marriage and Joseph and Mary were his children with Ann.Charlotte, Hannah, Rachel, & Julie A.were children by his 1st wife (unknown).William I believe died before the 1870's census.I have to check the 1860's census.
According to a couple posts that I have seen, I think it may be possible that William was the s/o Stephen Masters s/o Richard Masters. It is possible that both of his wives had the name Ann.1st: Ann Atherton m. 18 Sep 1817 in Guernsey Co., OH.2nd: Ann Jackson m. unknown. The 1850's census lists William's household right before Harrietsville starts. The William that married Ann Atherton helped to build the road to Harrietsville. But I have also seen where William s/o Stephen Masters married a woman by the name of Mary.
This does it for what I have on William's family or at least what I believe is William's family. Any help you could afford me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Christine
