I'm not sure about this Nancy Mauldin, found in Hiram Couch's home in 1850.First off, are you sure she is a Hughes? I know there was a family of Mauldins in the Gwinnett, GA area living near these Couches. In this census, Hiram is married to an Anna, this appears to be his second wife. Now, Nancy Mauldin may be a mother to this Anna, Hiram's wife, or Nancy Mauldin may be a grandmother to Francis Couch, Hiram's daughter. One thing is certain, Anna the wife and Francis the daughter are aunt and niece according to later census data. Tell me why you think this Nancy Mauldin is actually your Nancy Mauldin Hughes and maybe we can figure it out.
