McAULAY, MARION RIGGS
Marian Riggs McAulay, born December 30, 1922, passed away December 14, 2013, following an auto accident two days prior to Thanksgiving. She was raised in Lancaster, PA, where her parents, Arthur W. and Ella L. Riggs and Elizabeth Bachman Riggs preceded her in death. Marian was a graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School, Lancaster, PA, and completed her nurse's training at Women's Hospital, Philadelphia, in 1943. She was a Naval Officer during World War II and served her country honorably as a Registered Nurse at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. During this time, she met her husband, George C. McAulay, Glasgow, Scotland, and they married on May 10, 1945.
When George answered the call to ministry, Marian followed him to a variety of pastoral appointments around Florida, assisting him in his work as well as continuing her nursing career and raising her family. After retirement, they moved to Ocala where she has lived for many years. She was active in the Registered Nurses Retired and many church activities, as well as the local computer club. She enjoyed spending time on the computer, keeping her family and friends up-to-date in e-mails and Facebook. She remained active in the medical field by participating in the UF's Institute of Aging study in Gainesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Rev. George C. McAulay, and a granddaughter Heather McAulay Heming. She is survived by her loving children: Catherine A. Martin (Ken), Ocala; George R. McAulay (Pam), Fairbanks, AK; and Barbara McAulay Friend (David), Zephyrhills, FL. Grandchildren include: Donald Martin, Stuart Martin, Michael McAulay, Erin McAulay, Alexandra Shea, Andrew Shea, and Chris Friend. Great-grandchildren are Philip Martin, Laurence Martin, Kayla Martin and Kyle Martin, and a great-great grandson, Gavin Martin. She is also survived by her beloved sister Catharine R. MacKenzie (Charles), Warren, PA and sister-in-law Catherine Evans of Glasgow, Scotland; nieces and nephews Susan MacKenzie; Sharon MacKenzie; James MacKenzie; Moira Evans, Catherine Evans, John Evans and George Evans, also great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church...
