Denis James McDonnell, obit, New York W/McAuley connection
Denis James McDonnell (Big Mac), 59, lifelong resident of Yonkers, passed away Sunday May 19, 2013 at home from a long illness. He was born on November 23, 1953 in Yonkers to the late William and Jane McDonnell. Denis is survived by his wife Diane McAuley, daughter, Kaitlyn, stepson, Russell McAuley (Silvia) , step daughter Crystal Ann McAuley and stepson Christopher McAuley of Yonkers. Also survived by his brother William McDonnell (Kathleen) of Yonkers, sisiter Eileen McDonnell Reynolds (Bernard) of Port Ewen, NY, and brother Thomas McDonnell (Annarita) of Kingston,NY. He had one granddaughter, Alessandra McAuley, but he was also known as Grandpa too Helen and Anthony Poncurak. He was Godfather to Eileen Day and Karen Ann Strand. He is predeceased by his father William in 1986, mother Jane in 1990, sister Jane Marie Heinz in 1981, brother Arthur McDonnell in 1985 and nephew Daniel Scofield in 1977.Denis worked as a custodian for Yonkers Board of Education and retired after 30 years. He went to St. Marys Catholic School along with Yonkers public school. He made all of his Sacraments at St. Mary's. He served in the Navy in the early 1970's. Denis loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed trips to upstate N.Y. to be with family. He lived life to fullest . Arrangements entrusted to the care of Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. Calling hours are Wednesday May 22, 2013 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 11am at Presentation Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Port Ewen, N.Y. with interment to follow at Montrepose Cemetery Kingston, N.Y.
