ANY INFO!! immigration of James McAuley who m Elizabeth Johnson Henrico Co VA
I'm looking for any immigration/parentage info on James B McAuley (as it is spelled on his headstone, Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond VA d Dec 1878) who married Elizabeth Johnson in Henrico Co VA. They were married 20 Mar 1848 and lived in the Deep Bottom and Richmond areas of VA.
James B was a stonecutter in Richmond and was a "spy" for the North during the War between the States. He was arrested and held at Castle Thunder where he was starved to 75lbs! - what a horrible place!! We have read his Disallowed Southern Claim and of his arrest in the Richmond Daily Dispatch.
We have traced our McCauley/McAuley lineage directly to him, but this is where we hit the proverbial "brick wall"
It has always been said that James was a "7th son" and that he was born in Ireland. There are census records showing his place of birth as Ireland, Northern Ireland, Penn, and VA...We have one of his brothers as Joseph, and two possible brothers as William and John... but that's it!
I have looked at FamilySearch, Ancestry, and the Ships List to no avail... where do I go from here? I'm pretty new to this genealogy stuff, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thank you in advance!
