Re: John McBoyle & Anne Elizabeth Ironsides
My mother-in-law was a McBoyle. Her father was George Ingram McBoyle, her grandfather,Francis Robb McBoyle and her greatgrandfather John McBoyle who was the eldest son of John McBoyle and Ann Elizabeth Ironside.
As a child my mother-in-law, with her parents and siblings spent holidays on the farm at Oldwhat.
I believe I can explain the sudden appearance of the McBoyles in Aberdeenshire. I have been told that there were twin brothers named Boyle in Ireland who quarreled and one of them left to start a new life in Scotland. This is when the "Mc" was added to the surname.
I have a theory as to why there are two McBoyles- William and John. I can't prove it yet and may never do so but the information that John's father was called William does strengthen it.
I had discovered some of the American connections but didn't know that John and Ann had also gone to the USA. that explains why I lost track of them.
Quite a few seem to have emigrated with them. I think sons Alexander and Peter and another daughter Isabella.
Also George and Alexander, sons of John McBoyle junior and Jessie Smith, who ended up in Kansas.
I would be grate ful for any further information on the family from the other side of the Atlantic.
