Hi Lynn,
The informaton that I have for James C. McCann is as follows: James McCan is found on the 1850 Early County, Georgia census at age 17, living in the William Mansely household and working as a laborer. The Phillip Lingo household is nearby.
Randolph County marriage records has James C. McCan and Rebecca J. Smith married on December 6, 1853.Do you have a Smith family connection?
1860 Randolph County census has James C. McCan age 26, Rebecca age 22, John age 5, Sarah age 4, Alice age 1.
1870 Randolph County census has James McCann age 37, Rebecca age 36, John age 16, Sarah age 12, Allice age 10, William age 8, and Owen age 5.
1880 Leake County, Mississippi has J. C. McCan age 47, Jane age 42,Sarah age 23, Owen age 13, Charley age 9, and Thomas age 8.
I have learned from another James McCann descendant that Rebcca died shortly after the birth of Thomas.James C. then married Jane. The initial C. is for the middle name Calhoun.Could this be a family name?
James C. McCann fought in the Civil War with the 47th Ga. Inf.He was born in 1833, and died in 1899, and is buried in Leake County, Mississippi. His widow, Fances Jane, applied for a widow's pension in 1904.I was told that the wounds James received in the Civil War caused suffering for him and probably contributed to his death at age 66.
Leake County Marriage Records:
John A. McCann married Elizabeth Troutman January 22 1877.
Mary Alice McCann married Joseph Marshall Troutman, April 25,1876.
Sarah McCann married John H. Williams November 21, 1880.
After Joseph Marshall Troutman died Mary Alice married John R. Rushing in 1886.
John A. McCann is found on the 1900 Longview, Gregg County, Texas Census.
Owen Parks McCann also lived in Longview, Gregg County, Texas and eventually moved to Los Angeles, California and died there in 1941.
I descend through Mary Alice McCann Troutman Rushing.Mary Alice had 3 children with Joseph Marshall Troutman and 7 children with John R. Rushing. Two of the seven by John R. died in infancy.
Mary Alice and John R. Rushing moved to Texas around 1890, and settled in Kennard, Houston County, Texas.Mary Alice died in 1943, and is buried in the Ivie Cemetery in Houston County, Texas.
