HARLEM, Ga. - Mr. Samuel H. McCauley, 98, husband of the late Mrs. Ethel J. McCauley, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, March 6, 2009, at Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, Ga., with the Reverend Wayne Turpin officiating. Interment will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, Ga. Mr. McCauley was born in Springdale, Pennsylvania, and has been a Harlem resident since 1973. From 1922 - 1949, he was employed by Freedom Valvoline Oil Company in Freedom, PA, being responsible for fueling barges on the Ohio River and also working inside the lab. From 1949 until his 1972 retirement, he was employed by United Mines Workers District #50 and served as a Union Representative. He has been a member of the I00F Edith Lodge #812 Freedom, PA for over 65 years. Mr. McCauley is also a member of the Harlem Masonic Lodge #276, Harlem Lions Club, and Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Earl S. McCauley (Alice) Cheyenne, Wyoming, Edwin J. McCauley (Myrna) Abingdon, Virginia, and James R. McCauley, Sylvania; one daughter, Kimberley M. Mullinax, Thomson; son-in-law, Ted Knechtel, Harlem; one brother, Paul McCauley, State Road, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and 6 great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Ethel J. McCauley, a daughter, Shirley J. Knechtel, granddaughter, Joyce Lyn Welch, and grandson, Edwin John McCauley. Pallbearers will be Jim Childs, Josh Childs, Keith McCauley, Kyle McCauley, James McCauley and Bryan Collins.
