Re: McClanathan Surname
I'm very sorry that I took so long to respond, but I didn't really have much more information until recently.I have just learned that my grandfather was one Walter Lloyd McClanathan, apparently born 1897 in Charleboix, Michigan. He married a Jessie Louise Brown, born in 1908 in Cochrane, Alberta. They were married on July 20, 1925 in Calgary Alberta and had my father, Donald Robert McClanathan, in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 6, 1926 and gave him up for adoption one year later.
One Lionel McClanaghan (note spelling) was contacted by Saskatchewan government officials by telephone recently in Charleboix, MI.He indicated that his paternal grandfather was one Ed McClanathan, who coincidentally married another Jessie Louise Brown, born 1879. They had one son, Lawrence and raised another relative's child James, and Lionel's father (name unknown).
My sister, Sandra has located about 20 other McClanathan's currently living in Charlevoix, Michigan and plans to send letters to them with the hopes that they can help in our search. She also has found information about one Henry McClanathan who lived in Charlevoix, Michigan but who was born in Canada. He had 6 children.I don't know if this is any relation of ours or not.He was born in the mid 1800's and had his children in the early 1900's.Could he be the Henry Wheaton McClanathan you refered to in your last message?Grateful for any light you, or anyone else, might shed in our search for our (now-deceased) father's roots.
