McConnaughey, David & Jane Platt
David & Jane Platt McConnaughey sailed from DERRY TO the American Colonies ca 1750--1755 -- with 5 children:James, David, Robert, Elizabeth, John and settled in Pennsylvania where further children were born. (I am deliberately pushing the date due to the fact that John listed above is found in the Ohio 1850 census being 96 years old and born in Ireland.
Tentative birth date for James I have seen as early as 1747, and I doubt if that is verified, and believe it is someone's guess -- if anyone has sourced proof of that date, I certainly would like to see it.
It has been assumed that David, the immigrant, was born ca 1725; again, I have seen no verification of that date, and the ca almost always means "about" which means it is a guess.
I in collaboration with a few others have recently resumed research for placing this family firmly in Ireland and currently chasing a few hypothesis based on official records remaining in Ireland.
Hypotheses:Both immigrants (David & Jane Platt) belong to and descend from Scott Planters arriving in Ireland in the 1600'.
I am looking into a possible ancestor in Donnagh McConoghy who is listed in both the 1630 Muster Roll for Donegal:Barony de Rapho
The Lord Duke of Lynox, undertaker of 4000 acres, his men and armes; and the 1665Heath Money roll -- (need to check my notes my notes, but believe Clonca).
Later on in the 1740's Protestant Householders list we find:James McConohy in Drumcarbit- CLONCA, Donegal, John Platt in Bree- CLONCA- Inishowen, Donegal, and Robert Platt in Muff- Templemore- Inishowen, Donegal.
Cautionary note:The relationships between David McConnaughey and Jane Platt the immigrants and those listed above has not yet been established, and according to Proni the indexes are all that survive and further information is not available; however, I've read that the Presbyterian Church and many of the lawyers handling wills and estates did not send their original papers into Dublin but kept them sending copies, thus there may be in some archives somewhere further information on these folks. listed above.
Anyone doing (or has done) research in Ireland, and is there further information to be had???
