Cools and McCools of Pennsylvania

Gilbert Cool was b. ca. 1798 in PA and died November 11, 1879 in Clinton, Allegheny Co, Pa. Gilbert married Rebecca Moore (b. ca. 1796 in Pa and d. September 22, 1880 in Clinton). Rebecca is the daughter of Augustine Moore and Verlinda Dawson. Gilbert was a blacksmith and then a farmer.

I have a lot of information on Gilbert's descendants. Also, Cools and McCools in Pa in general. A lot of my data has been posted at the Cool and McCool message boards and family tree board at Ancestry.com.

Seeking the parents of Gilbert. Census data says that Gilbert was born in PA. Beer's biography of his son, Christopher Colombus Cool, says that Gilbert was born "east of the mountains," which, if true, means he was born east of the Alleghenies. The family tradition holds that the name was changed from McCool to Cool, so it's possible that Gilbert's father's name was McCool.
