J.M.McCorkle, son of W. Harvey McCorkle and Nancy Catherine
McCoy(not Wilson), died in a car accident on Oct. 19,1920.J.M.McCorkle is buried beside his mother, Nancy McCoy McCorkle, at Sharon Presbyterian Church cemetery.Lucy Merritt is buried at Flint Hill Presby. Church in Fort Mill, S.C.I know this information as fact.
W.H. McCorkle is a mystery to me.So far I have located him and his wife on the 1870 and 1880 NC census in Union Co..I have found through census records, that W.Harvey McCorkle was the son of a Matthew and Elizabeth Howe(possibly Howie/Huie).I have found this information also in the 1850 and 1860 NC Census in Union Co.Going backwards, I believe this Matthew McCorkle is realted to the John McCorkle(McCorkel)that came from Pennsylvania in the 1760's.I am still stumped on exactly who was Matthew's parents.According to the ages on the census records, Matthew was born around 1812/1813? in Mecklenburg Co.(now the present day Union Co. NC.)
W.Harvey McCorkle,as I was told, is buried with his second wife in Heath Springs SC.I have been unable to find the burial site or any info on who the second wife was.I have an old picture of W.Harvey McCorkle and the second wife.
I based most of the information that I haver collected from talking to relatives in the past.My grandfather, Every Roy McCorkle, son of J.M.McCorkle, had a book printed in 1934 about a campground in Union Co. NC.The property was donated by Mathew McCorkle.I was alway told that this was a direct relative. All of my direct family is gone now and the older relatives I talk to are like me that are clueless before W.Harvey and Nancy C. McCoy McCorkle.
