I don't believe that John M and James Madison McCorkle were the same person. John M. was the son of John McCorkle and Mary Copper and a grandson of John (McCorkel) McCorkle and Margaret Evans. James Madison McCorkle (obviously related) has been the subject of many researchers...to my knowledge his relationship has not been determined. John McCorkle II's other brothers living in Lincoln County at that time were James M. McCorkel, Robert McCorkle and Archibald McCorkle. I have not been able to tie your James Madison McCorkle to either of these. He is definitely not a child of Robert, unlikely that he is a child of James M. since he had another son named James so possibly son of Archibald about whom little is known.
