Michael McCormack and Kilkenny

I am looking for information on a Michael McCormack, born 1 SEPT 1824, possibly in Kilkenny, Ireland. He could have been in the priesthood or studying to be a priest. His (grand)father could have been a British army commander in Dublin. Michael had a son, William. William was born on 9 July 1853 also possible in Kilkenny, Ireland. This family left Ireland shortly after William's birth. William's mother's name was Catherine (Steele) Payne. Catherine was previously married to a man named Steele.
