Re: McCreary yDNA
The yDNA sample we have so far from a descendant of Hugh McCreary (d. 1808) at www.ysearch.org ID VVAHB has no match in the McCreary DNA Project. Results from another descendant of Hugh should be available soon. This was done to check for unknown Non-Paternal Events down our McCreary line, & to improve resolution if we should locate a match in the project in the future. The first sample comes from a descendant of Hugh’s son James (also my ancestor). The upcoming sample will be from a descendant of Hugh’s son John. Yet another McCreary cousin (also descends from John) is challenging the prevailing views of Hugh’s parentage. The new theory is that Hugh may have been a son of James McCreary (d. Dec. 1782, Straban Twp., York Co. Penn.) & his wife Elizabeth. Analyses of estate records, timelines, and naming patterns led to this theory. There it stands, until yDNA gives us a hand.
