Re: John McCullough 1774-77 at Fort Pitt, PA
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or not but here goes...Maj.s Samuel and John McCullough of Short Creek (the ones refered to in "Betty Zane") and their sister Elizabeth (wife of Ebenezer Zane) were the children of John McCullough (b. 1726) and Sarah Inskeep. He also had siblings George (1728), Mary (1730), Elizabeth (1732), and Hannah (10-15-1737).Their parents were Samuel (1705) and Elizabeth Ward McCullough.Samuel had brothers John (1708) (m. Mary____), and Robert (1710).Parents of Samuel were John (b. 1682) and Mary Campbell (b. 1683) McCullough. They were born in Scotland married 1703 in Ireland.John died in New Jersey.John's parents were "Captain" John and Katherine Ross who were born in Scotland and came to Ireland where I believe they died. There is no info to date that they made the final voyage."Captain" John's parents were Sir Alexander McCullock (d. 1675) of Myretoun and Anna Ferguson of Kilkerran (d. aft 1699).He was son of John (1589-1667) and Elizabeth McCulloch, and John was son of Gothray McCulloch and Marion Kennedy.Gothray died about the same time John was born.
Whew!I am descended from Sir Godfrey McCulloch, Sir Alexander's oldest son.He was the last person to be beheaded in Scotland!
This information was provided to my mother by a cousin some years ago.So far the information on our line has proven correct.(There are many different spellings of the McCullough name.)
Hope this is useful.I have aditional info on some of the other "cousins).
