Allan J. Macdonald (1766-1830) Kilmuir to PEI
I know this is a "Mc" forum but I am looking wherever I can for the parents of Allan J. Macdonald, born 20 Aug 1766 in Kilmuir, Isle of Skye, Scotland. He married Margaret MacKinnon (1783-1869)of the same place in 1805.Prince Edward Island history books claim he was a descendant of the Macdonalds of the Isles, which seems logical, but I would like to find out how! He emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1829 aboard the Mary Kennedy from Portree, Skye.He had at least two sisters, Catherine born abt. 1742 who married Donald Macleod of Kendrom, Skye, and emigrated to PEI; and Margaret who married John "Kinloch" Macdonald of Kinloch, Skye, and also went to PEI.
This is the quote:
"He was a man of exceptional parts, and an ideal gentleman, derived from a long line of illustrious Scotch ancestry, and a direct descendant of that Macdonald whom Scott has immortalized as "The Lord of the Isles". The Macdonalds of Kinloch were his very near relatives, and one of them, Donald Macdonald, "Kinloch Donhull a Rudha" was the nearest relative of the "Lord of the Isles" that left Scotland for America." - "Prince Edward Island, Past and Present"
If anyone can tell me what family he likely came from I would appreciate it.
