Matthew McElrath-- Calloway Co KY
There is a Matthew McElrath which appears on the Calloway County, KY tax lists beginning in 1837.He appears right next to William McElrath, who I believe is his father.I also think him to be the M.P. McElrath that appears on the 1850 Livingston Co cenus (see message #364).William had died in 1850 before the census.I haven't been able to locate Matthewor M.P. in any subsequent censuses.Does anyone have any additional info?
The tax lists have a tally for number of white males over 21.Prior to 1837, William's entry only had 1 male over 21 (himself).Assuming that Matthew turned 21 after the 1836 tax list and before the 1837 list, he would be born about 1815.William's 1820 Stewart Co TN and 1830 Calloway Co KY censuses show a heretofor unidentified male born 1810-1815 in his household. And M.P. McElrath in Livingston Co is listed as 38 in 1850, which calculates to a birth year of about 1812.These dates are all in a consistent range.
Another intriguing aspect is that William's first wife was Mary Patton and they named there firstborn John Patton McElrath (Mary's father was John).Mary also had a brother named Matthew. If M.P. stands for Matthew Patton McElrath, this would indicate Mary Patton as his mother, placing her death sometime after 1812 or so in Tennessee.William was remarried to Isabella McCorkle by 1820.
