Pretty sure this is my McE branch_ John Alexander McElravy, father of John McE b. April 17, 1800_ and sibs: Sarah, David, Alexander, Cornelius and William.
GGG grandfather, John McE b. 1825 was married to Catherine Shannon. Her father, William Shannon, is documented in the Mercer-Cool Springs area as well.It was Catherine who documented the bible pages in 1856 with all the family dates and names.
Have been reading records_ page by page_line by line_ to find John and Catherine before he died.Nothing so far.
In the 1850 Census a son, Alexander b. August 6, 1825 is recorded as being born in New Jersey. His wife probably was but I've never heard anyone mention the possibility of the family having attachments there.
Both sides of my family, Davis and Barnhart, are documented with the "in lieu of script 200 acre landparcels", most settling in Westmoreland, Armstrong and Butler counties.
The McElravy's are found in Pine and Manor Twps of Armstrong County and then a little later in Clarion.I believe they branched from the Centre county McE's of the very early 1800's; some going through Jefferson and some going further south through Washington_ your branch.
The records of Mercer, Crawford and Venango counties are hard to designate as they weren't really defined as counties until after 1810 and 1820.Jefferson was considerably larger than it is now and Clarion didn't exist until 1836.
Finding clear documentation for the townships in these ever-changing counties is most certainly a "haystack" thing. Will post if discovery presents.
