I am certain the Charles Wesley McElravy (b. 1839) you are looking for is the son of Cornelius McElravy (b. January 20, 1805).This Cornelius was the younger brother of my GGG grandfather John McElravy (b. April 17, 1800).John's wife's name was Catherine SHANNON (b. Oct 13, 1803), daughter of Daniel SHANNON of Northumberland County, PA.The Shannon family was well established in the territory prior to the early 1800's.The mis-spelling of the surname has perpetuated for quite some time.
1850 PA Census records provide that Cornelius, brother of John had a son named Charles Wesley. He also had 3 daughters, Margaret Ann, Mary Jane and Miriam. His first wife, Margaret died before 1850 and he was not remarried at the time of the 1850 Census. His mother, Elizabeth McElravy (b. 1780 was the wife of Benjamin McElravy (b. 1776 in Cumberland County, PA) was living with the family.
In 1860 the record shows that Cornelius has married again to Ruth D age 54 (b. ABT 1804)_ it does not seem likely that Ruth would have had any children after age 45.The youngest child in the household is Miriam at age 17; except for a 16 y/o girl named Ann E James.Unknown what her relationship is to this family.
Can be very confusing within this family as John also had a son named after his brother Cornelius however the son of John, Cornelius (b. Aug 31, 1837), did not have a son named Charles Wesley.
