My grandmother was Zora McElwee Johnson, her father was Joseph McElwee and his father was John H. who traveled from Virginia to Delaware County, Ohio (Center Village).
In answer to your question, as to Williams parents. His father was David "Mucklewee". In 1805 David left a noncupative (oral) will in Hampshire County, VA. (now W. VA) which was just over the ridge from Frederick County, VA. He traveled to his sister's home on March 16 and died the next day. She was Susanna McIlwee Clutter. David left behind at least seven orphan children. James and Mordacai Bean took responsibility for six of the younger children including William in 1807.Later they took in the seventh oldest orphan, David. The Beans were associated with the Zane-Bean iron making furnace furnace near Mt. Williams, Mountain Falls, Va.
A researcher that I have contact with believes that the David who died in 1805 had a father who was also a David.
I am wondering if you are from the Center Village, OH. family too.I lost information about my grandmother's brother Charles and wonder if you are connected with him by any chance. Also my g. grandfather Joseph married a woman named Wilson after my g. grandmother Mary Haycook died.
Hope this helps and that I hear from you. I have more info.
