The Pharr family came from Scotland but must have stoped in Ireland. as much as I can tell there are no one named Pharr with that spelling in Scotland but are in Ireland. My belief and is sahred by others the name was something like Phair or Fair but when they got to america they were called Farr. Around 1810 most in this line began to spell there name Pharr and seems that happened back in Ireland. Why I don't know. A question on when the family came to America has also came up. One there were 7 brothers and most came south. This has been questioned but not disproved. What we do have is brothers Henry b. 1716, George b. 1718, Edward Neddy b. abt 1720 d. 11 Feb 1795 in Wilkes or Oglethorpe C. Ga., Ephraim b. between 1720-27 and d. 1784 in Mecklenburg C. NC. There is nothing to prove Ephraim ever went to Georgia. There sister Margaret b. abt 1739 but this could be wrong.
Most of my work in on the Edward Neddy Phair line. Edward was mar. to Rachel Beard abt 1748. We know the family at some point lived in Pennsylvania and lived around Fawn Township. From there they moved on to the Lynchburg Va area where Edward meet Rachel Beard. Edward and Rachel had 10 children. He then mar. Mary Orr 9 Jan 1790 at Guilford NC. Fot this post I will do the males. If someone asks I can do the females.
Ephraim b. 8 Aug 1755 in Va d. 1798 in Lexington Ga. mar. Jane Smith. Jane can be found on the 1800 Oglethorpe C. census living next to brother inlaw Edward Pharr jr also know as Rev. Edward T. Pharr.
Samuel Ezekiel b. 30 Oct 1757 d. 7 May 1804 in Abbeville SC
Samuel mar. Elizabeth Bailey and she is shown on the 1820 Abbeville SC census she and her family moved on to Gwinnett C and some of her sons moved on to Mississippi.
Rev. Edward T. Pharr b. 1766 and d. 12 June 1845 in Jackson C. Ga. He mar. first Mary Orr and had 10 children with her. Then mar. Margaret McMillion and had 5 children. We don't know if the Mary Orr is the same or related to the one that mar. his father. His father married her late in life and we do know this Mary Orr gave up all claims to her husbands estate. There is a copy of this in the book Pharrs and Farrs.
Francis was b. abt 1766 and d. abt 1803. He was never mar. and left his estate to a nephew name Francis the son of brother Jonathan.
Johanathan b. abt 1778 and d. abt 1829 in Pulaski Ark. he mar. Estar Thompson first and had 3 sons. It's said he got mar. agin but the name is unknown and no record of them having children. His family line moved on to Arkansas and Texas.
John Houlton b. 10 Aug 1778 and d. 3 Aug 1844 in Newton C. Ga. He mar. Sally Tatum. John must have went by Abraham at some point. They had one known son Alexander and the family had a large plantation and many slaves.
Someone posted that Ephraim was married to a McEwen. So the question is was it him or his son. The son of Edward N. Phair mar. Jane Smith as I said 1784 in North Carolina and she out lived Ephraim. Ephraim had a son name Ephraim who was and officer under Andrew Jackson in the Indian Wars. He moved from Georgia and settled in Wilcox C. Ala and had a large plantation with may slaves there. He mar.Mary Matthews 12 April 1819 in Greene C. Ga. So he was about 25 when that happened. He served in the War of 1812 and was and Ensign in the Oglethorpe C. Milita. There are a few things pointing to him having 2 sons with anoter woman. There names were John B. Pharr and William. This has never been proven but is reasonable. Both men did live and lived in Alabama around the time of Ephraim. Ephraim was also the second sheriff of Wilcox c. Ala.
