Wife of James McFarland died 1742 Brunswick, Me.
I would like to take the opportunity here to note that the spouse of James McFarland (bn abt 1680, Tyrone; died 1742 Brunswick, Me)is likely NOT "Mary Etherington". I have seen references to his wife as being an "Etherington" on countless Ancestry.com, and Rootsweb.com, sites. But there is not one iota of evidence to support these frequent assertions. There is no question that his wife was "Mary Mackfarland", this is stated in the probate records. BUT these records do not state her last name was "Etherington". Here we have another example of how sites like Ancestry.com promote "lazy" research through their promotion of "point and click" data theft; to say "I saw it on Ancestry.com so it must be true" is very poor research at best. Clearly what has happened here is that these "sloppy" researchers are mixing up two different men named James McFarlnd. The other "James McFarland" is "James Rankin McFarland" born in 1859, who did have a wife named "Mary Etherington" (born in 1862). But this "James Rankin McFarland" to my knowledge has nothing what-so-ever to do with the line in question (perhaps he is one of the "Blue Hill" bunch of unrelated McFarlands in Maine). /s/ Earl MacFarland email@example.com
