Dawn:I have been out of the country for a while, but still can't believe I had somehow missed your posting about "Constable Pat."While many of us on the "Mc-1-R" site can trace ourselves back pretty well to Wm, John, and James in Chester Dist SC during and after the Rev War--and while there is mention oftheir (or Wm at least) having been born in Cecil Cnty MD, if you have found a record of a Patrick McG in Cecil Cnty MD, thenI believe you have found a very important "pre-Chester" piece--and I'd like to follow-up some if I could.
In short, it looks like--from what you, Shawn M, and BJH have found/posted-- that y'all have esssentiallyestablished adocumented "late 1600's Tidewater VA -to NE MD--to SC" trail--which for me at least seems to be very significany.(The trailfrom Chester Cnty,SCto Elbert Cnty, GA and points west--at least for the several sons of John and their offspring--is no where near as cold.)
About the only thing I would queston inyour extremely helpful piece is the part about Cecil CntyMD bordering VA.While I am certainly no expert on MD geographic history, at least now Cecil Cnty (way up in the NE corner of MD) is about as far as a MD county can get from VA.On the other hand, Cecil Cnty is certainly aseaport zone--so getting up there from the coastal Norfolk/Surrey Cnty VA area in the mid 1700's would not seem to have been that hard--or unlikely.
So, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could give me some leads about where data on Constable Pat could be found--how long he was up there, where he lived, etc.It isn't all that hard for me to get up there fron Northern VA on a weekend and look thru courthouses, graveyards, etc--if you think there might be some payoff along that line.I would of coure be glad to share/post anything I found.
In any case, thanx for the leads/info you have already provided.Best regards, BobMcG
