Shortly after Thomas McGarrah arrived in Northwest Arkansas with his wife Rachel he applied for and recieved a land grant in Southeast Arkansas. Why would Thomas decide to leave Northwest Ark. and move down there? His land grant was in Lee County Arkansas south of Memphis and on the Mississippi River. On 15 November 1830 he recieved a Land Patent for 320 acres in what is now Lee Co. Register's Cert. # 67, Claim # 128. If he didn't have any reason to be near Tennessee, like family, why would he be claiming land so far away from the rest of the McGarrah's in Northwest Arkansas???
