Re: Census Lookups please - McGee, Ohio
Thank you so much for your work.
I had also found that 1860 Kentucky census and thought it might be "right", so your thought that it might be right certainly helps.According to his obit, Charles McGee was born in Dublin Ireland, and his parents came here when he was "but six weeks of age".The 1870 census lists him as born in OH, and most of his children's censuses say OH for him, with maybe 2 saying "Ireland".I am guessing that he found it easier to say he was born in the US, and didn't take the "where born?" question very seriously when the census taker came along... does that make sense to you?
The 1850 census you found with Charles, 21, born Ireland is probably "right".It sort of looks like he is living with some siblings, siblings-in-law, maybe cousins...?
I am very confused on the 1840 census.I can't really jibe the 1840 with the 1850, which isn't surprising, since people die and move within 10 years, but still, I can't draw any conclusions.
I had also found a website with Ohio State Census heads of household. In 1835 in Washington Twp (Piqua) were Charles and Robert.
I would love it if you could pass on the 1840 Elijah McGee census.I may not be able to draw any more conclusions, butit may help.
Thank you again!
