The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick are accessible online and free; In the cemeteries section, John McGeorge is listed in the Lake George Micmac Cemetery, died 1822, age 40.I grew up nearby and the local oral history is the following:
On a snowy morning in late autumn, Mr. McGeorge shot a deer in his field.Shortly thereafter, an Indian man appeared on snowshoes, said he had been tracking the deer for some time, said his family was hungry and asked to share the deer meat.McGeorge refused and the Indian killed him.
Community members tracked the Indian for several weeks, who eluded them by using such woodcraft devices as traveling in circles, wearing his snowshoes backwards etc. Finally he was cornered at the Pokiok Falls, a gorge where the Pokiok Stream enters the Saint John River. He cut a small tree, used it to pole vault across the gorge and got away.Several months later he was captured by his campfire in Bear Island, on the opposite side of the Saint John River. If memory serves, he was tried and hanged.
I hope this helps.
