Re: Timothy McGinnis and Sarah Kast McGinnis
Which child of Hannah De Forest and Stephen Secord are you descended from ?
My family Bible is only about a grandson of Hannah De Forest and his children.
In the genealogical research dept of the St Catherines Public Library in Ontario there is a very good collection of microfilms of old wills from the local probate court.
Among them for 1842 is the will of Hannah De Forest clearly proving her children and the grandchildren already born by 1841 when she died.
The origional document was over large so its hard to make copies on the machine they have there without having to make them in parts but its neatly written and fortunately readable
To link Hannah with her parents Simon and Mary and Mary with her father Timothy McGinnis: the UEL Dominion office in Toronto have records on file (mine among them) that prove Hannah was the the daughter of Simon De Forest and Mary McGinnis and that Mary was the wife of Tomthy McGinnis
Plus there are several books on Loyalists or the De Forest family and the Herkimer County Palatine-German Kast family that contain the connections. Simon was one of the De Forests of Albany and the family was an old one from "New Amsterdam" days.
If you are a descendant you will be pleased to know that Simon was recently proven to be a Loyalist.
If Hannah is your ancestor then you have at least five Loyalists that you can receive certificates for
Simon De Forest and his wife Mary McGinnis
Sarah Kast McGinnis the mother of Mary
Sgt Stephen Secrod of Butler's Rangers the husband of Hannah De Forest
Lt James Secord the father of Stephen
