Re: Elihu MCGLAUGHLIN/McLaughlin m. Martha mid-1800s
My GGG Grandfather Robert W. McLaughlin was born about 1796 +- 1 year in Bath Co. Married in 1835 in St. Joseph Co. Indiana. Lived in Mishawaka IN until his death in about 1853. Last child born in Lee Co. Iowa and family eventually settled in Mercer and Grundy Co. Missouri. Exact date and location of Robert's death is unknown. Filed affidavit for service in War of 1812 for Land Bounty in 1851. Possibly on the move after July 1852. Again, last daughter born Aug. 1853/54 then widow remarried by 1856. Widow and offspring in Mercer Co. Missouri by 1857-60.
It is possible that before 1835 he lived in Meigs Co. Ohio as his wife Lucinda (Shaw) McLaughlin is believed to come from there.
Wife was Lucinda Shaw. Children Allen, Andrew, Charles, Phidelia, Thomas, Louisa & Wm.
Was known to have been in Bath Co. VA and
Franklin, Pendleton Co. VA.
He was illiterate so it can be presumed his name could be spelled McGlaughlin/McGloughlin or McLaughlin. The family was likely of Scottish or Northern Irish heritage as they were not Catholic.
Any information is greatly appreciated
