Re: Thomas McGrew Ireland>SC>KY
My husband has not done the DNA projects yet, but we are starting to see how it could be very helpful.I have seen the whole controversy over where Thomas was born.Has anyone done any research in Ireland to prove or disprove that place of birth??
Anyway, my husband's g.g.grandfather was Francis Marion McGrew b. 1863 (brother of Thomas B. McGrew b.1858).They are all listed in the 1870 Marshall County, KY census with their father Thomas McGrew b.1815.Francis Marion's death certificate gives Thomas McGrew as his father. Charlotte McGrew (sister to Francis and Thomas B.) gives both parents as Thomas McGrew and Sarah Holland. Also, in the 1870 census, Bluford McGrew is living near or with Thomas (1815) which leads me to believe that they are related (brothers?).I've only found one Bluford McGrew that fits that age and he is the son of John and Sarah.
I would like more information on John and the Thomas of Ireland/PA.I agree that the pension record is kind of sketchy. What other documents are there that might shed light onto his place of birth? Are there immigration records?Has the DNA helped to determine an origin yet?It seems odd that different people have different references for his birth place. Is it possible that Thomas had lied to someone about his origins? If so, why?
Thanks for your help.
