Trina,
I would like to know if you have run across a Thomas Mckean (b. abt 1817 Scotland) immigrated to New York June 16,1849 with Wife Agnes and Children David and elizabeth. The same family (possibly)is shown in the 1850 census for Niagra, New York: Thomas 32, Agnes 30, Elizabeth 8. David 6, Hellen 1..... But, then they seam to disappear in the 1860 census...
Then I find what seams to be the same Thomas in the 1851 Census for Chatham township Ontario, Canada...It was just an index that I found online, so I don't have the actual ages but, It shows Thomas, Agnes, David, Elizabeth ~and Margarette and Jeanette~possibly other children?....I have not found any online access to the 1861 Ontario census or index, but in an 1871 census (head of household)index I found Thomas still in Chatham Twp. Ontario, Canada.Again, Unfortunately It was only an index so I have no idea who else is in the household. By 1881 the census shows Thomas 64, Agnes 62, and Bella 25....I really have a hunch this could be a connection.
Thomas's son David could be my GGgrandfather...?
I know that my GGgrandfather was David Mckean b. abt. 1844 in Scotland (according to us census records)....according to census records, David was born in Scotland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1850, David married Phoebe A. Courtney (b. abt. 1849 in Canada)in Candada..According to census records Phoebe Mckean did not immigrate to the U.S. until 1875.. they had two sons, William G. (1869) and Leslie Adam (1871, my Ggrandfather)before immigrating to Michigan, USA abt. 1875?. Both William and Leslie are stated in Census images as being born in Canada....I have not been able to find David Mckean and his wife Phoebe in the 1871 HOH census index perhaps because David is not the head of household but perhaps living with his father (thomas Mckean?) or with his wife Phoebe A. Courtney's father...
So, with my david immigrating to the U.S. in 1850 but being married and having children in Canada tells me that he could be David, son of Thomas (as stated above)...
I can trace David Mckean in the U.S. census for Port Huron/ Harbor beach/ St. clair Michigan from 1880 to 1930. So far I haven't connected my Mckean family to Thomas Mckean indefinitely, but I have a hunch.
You can email me directly at [email protected]...
If anyone can contribute to the above mess by adding or correcting any of the info I would greatly appreciate it!
